General Membership Meeting

President Bob Fankhauser called the Sept 10, 2023 meeting to order.

The minutes from the Aug 6, 2023 meeting were approved as read by Nancy Beisler

Treasurer’s report was read by Nancy Beisler.  A motion was made by Judy Wilgues and 2nd by  Dave Noaker to accept the report, subject to audit.  Motion carried.

Guests: Ray Trillett , John Dyer, James Gregory, Sean Clark from Chain Breakers

Guest Speaker:  Ray Trillet Invited our chapter to the event they are holding on Sept 24, 2023 to benefit the CASA Program for Summit and Portage Counties. $20 will cover the ride and dinner or $10 just for dinner. They will have 50/50 and raffle baskets.  He explained the CASA Program and how their organization works with them to benefit children.

President Report Old Business :  President Bob Fankhauser offered the following

Christmas plate:  Dave Noaker has the plate from last year and will get it to Bob

Vetfest:  Reason it was cancelled was due to the lack of food trucks, sponsors, and volunteers.  Moe decided to cancel. We will get our $500 deposit back and will need to refund the $1500 sponsorship amount to Eric

Sept 11th & 12th Summit County Stand down only to help out : at Guys Party Center, no one volunteered.  Contact Bob if interested in volunteering

Silent Watch Sept 23rd Volunteers needed (Dress Code):  Contact Sara Chambers or Dana to volunteer

Sept 23rd PW Cheers hosting Harvest Veterans Festival at 285 31st St SW, Barberton starting at 11 AM and per Jerry Oppie will probably last 3-4 hours.

Honor trip Welcome Home in Shreve, Ohio Oct 1st 5PM Cress Code and Color Guard.  Plan on leaving after the General Meeting to arrive in Shreve at the High School before 5.   Color Guard needs to be there before 5.

 

Vice President Report: Wes Suladie thanked everyone for their prayers in his recovery.  The US Air Force Suit was purchased and will be put on the mannequin to be on display at the 2023 Gun Bash in the cage.

C.O.B. Report:  Jerry Oppie will speak after the break

Ron Mani Award: Select at the Oct Board Meeting and will be presented at the Nov Meeting

Gun Bash:  Kevin Ivey:   The following report of tickets sold is Main 511/600, Green 390/500, Yellow 412/500.  If anyone has any unsold tickets, please turn them in so they can be distributed to those still needing tickets.  There are people waiting to purchase tickets and want to come to the event.  Door prizes are needed and should be turned in at the October meeting.  Nancy Beisler stated that there are women who come to the event so don’t forget about them in donating door prizes.  Harold Fields said he talked to the suppliers and chicken and cakes are taken care of.  Don’t forget to sign up next month for your volunteer positions.

Adopt A Family:  Kolleen and Darlene:   Nothing has been set up yet.

Color Guard: Chris Duncan:   October 1 is the next event.  Jerry Oppie said volunteers are always needed to join.  The only other event coming up will be the Piston/Power Show in 2024

Suicide Prevention and Military Families: Sara & Moe :  Absent

Wellness : Kevin Ivey:   Paulette’s husband passed away.  She is doing great.  Wes is thankful for all the prayers and is doing well.   Donna Smith’s son is recovering from surgery and is doing remarkably well.  Keep prayers coming.

Quartermaster : Tim Hess:  Patches for Jim Myers will be in by the next meeting.  He will be taking a shirt order at the November meeting.  He will look into additional colors if available.

Election of Board Members: Dave Noaker:  The following are elected to the Board of Directors: Carolyn Liggett, James Pierce, and Harold Murray.  The Alternate is Tim Hess

New Business

A request for a $200 donation to Chain Breakers for use in their cause was made by Bob Fankhauser. A motion was made by Dave Noaker and 2nd by Merry Ingraldi to have Bob Fankhauser give Ray Trillett the $200 check at the event on Sept 24 for the use for the childrens’ cause.  Motion approved

A request from Moe Pelkey for $100 Registration fee for a 2 day seminar to be held on Sept 16 & 17 in Canal Fulton was presented by Bob Fankhauser.  If Moe attends both days the registration fee will be refunded.  A motion was made by Dave Noaker and 2nd by Harold Fields to pay the $100 fee.  Motion approved.

A request by Jerry Oppie for the amount of $300 to help out a friend who was a victim of a devastating house fire that caused the loss of house and contents. A fund raiser is being held on Sept 24 to help him and his daughter out.  Motion by Marty VanHorn and 2nd by Joanne Suladie to donate $300 to him and his daughter with Jerry Oppie presenting him the check   Motion approved

Dave Noaker said the VFW is starting up their spaghetti dinners beginning Sept (we missed this month) on the 2nd Friday of each month from 5-7

Bob Fankhauser indicated we will be loading up the trailer for the Gun Bash on Sat Oct 7 at 10AM at the storage facility at RAK Self Storage at 2472 Canton Road

Judy Wilgues said the Sons of Italy is holding a Card Party on Saturday Sept 23 at Redeemer School Gym  She has tickets for $10 each

50/50 was won by Gerry Beisler.  $37 donated to the Scholarship Fund

There being no further business to come before the chapter, a motion was made by  Judy Wilgues and 2nd by Jerry Oppie to adjourn the meeting
